Driving Stunt
I’m getting better at my sense of directions. At least, I’ve improved on my map reading skills :)
My adventurous streak led me to venturing a totally unfamiliar route along Seletar Expressway, and seeking my bearings at Yishun area. I was supposed to pick dear up outside his camp after his ippt, but somehow, we just couldn’t hit on a common entrance of the camp. Suffice to say, the camp is simply too big. Under such circumstance, I would normally freak out. Cos’ I fear driving alone at a stranger place, and worst, getting lost at it. But I was glad to have remained calm; I stopped at the roadside, browsed through the Street Directory to locate both of us in the area, and tried to steer towards his direction. In the end, I picked him up outside some secondary schools.
And here comes the ‘gangster’ driving stunt. It did not occur to that I had been performing an extremely dangerous act (or an offence) when I drove us from Yishun to NUS. Not till I stopped the car at the red light along Queensway area that leads me to AYE.
While waiting for the light to turn green, the driver of the car in front of mine exited from his car out of the blue. We wondered what this crazy man was doing. Looking a tad stern, the man was hand-signalling frantically at me. I was shell-shocked. I thought it was an accident at first and he signalled for me to stop for investigation. But on a closer look, my car was stopped at a safe distance from him, so that couldn’t be the case.
Suddenly, something struck me.
I FORGOT to turn on my car’s headlights. OHMYGOD. So all the while, I had been driving a car that almost camouflage into the night darkness (never mind the dimly-lit street lamps). Though I was quite taken aback the man specially came out of his car only to gesture me to turn on my headlights, I truly appreciate his kind intention :) It’s superbly unsafe to drive at night without the headlights of your car turn on.
Lesson learnt: I must REMEMBER to turn on my car’s headlights when I drive at night! Sadly, I have the tendency to forget. But I’ll remind myself. REMIND REMIND REMIND. Maybe friends who sit in my car at night can help too! (:
