POST EXAMS
It simply feels great after exams, when one's not tied down with school work and can do whatever she likes. But I do have an obligation to fulfill, that is to work on my FYP. I have to hand in my first written draft to my supervisor next Jan. The thought of it cruelly reminds me that I don't exactly have all the freedom in the world to play and wild. Before I set my mind at work next week, I still wanna maximize the fun of holidays. (:
Post exam activities are nothing less than doing abit of temp work, helping out with housework, spring cleaning my desk and wardrobe, baidu-ing to add to my songs collection, online gaming, tv-ing, putting my Europe 07 trip photos into a proper album (this is long overdue), FB-ing, regaining my fitness, catching up with friends whom I haven’t met for sometime on msn and keeping in touch with my piano that had been left collecting dusts since I was done with grade 8.
At the same time, I have been constantly feeding myself with news daily to keep up with current affairs. I really love it when I do not have to glance through news, but instead, to read and enjoy each and every article that interests me. There are indeed loads of big news lately that covers terrorism at Mumbai, India, the political unrests in Bangkok which is getting out of hand, global economic meltdown, retrenchments and whatnots. The world is truly caught in the whirlwind of economic, social and political negativities that seem unstoppable.
At the micro level, my temp work in facilitating choir auditions and practice is fun cos’ it involves managing the kids. Kids are either plain innocent, cute and blur or super irritating, nosey and rude. But OK, I encountered more of the former. Through this job, I also get to see how kiasu and demanding some parents are, and they tend to take things for granted. On the other hand, there are some who are truly understanding and nice. In fact, I had a good chat with a few of them, answering their queries. First time working with dear, who technically is my boss. Kinda weird but enjoyable. (:
On a side note, I have to say, that the warm feeling one gets from performing a good deed is indescribable. Before I met dear for my first day of work, I came across a Korean tourist who asked for directions to the iconic merlion. We were at raffles mrt when he inquired, and I figured out that it was quite hard for me to explain to him the directions, so I decided to take him there instead. Along the way, we had a good chat and he even highlighted to me that Korean soap dramas are really a big hit in Singapore.
Interestingly, he asked, “Are there alot of Thais in Singapore?”
I was rather puzzled by his question. But as I probed further, I realised why he would think that way. Cos’ he misunderstood the Tamil written on the signage at the mrt station to be Thai. Haha. We had a good laugh after I cleared his doubt. He couldn’t thank me more for guiding him and his friend to the merlion.
A simple kind act like this made both of our days too (:
