Far But So What?

Some people may find it ridiculous, but still I took public transport all the way to ntu for a mere hour of Yoga, my one and only class for the day and returned home after that.

In my first year, I used to complain that the school is far. Till now, I admit that it IS indeed far. My journey to school takes me about 2hrs, inclusive of all the buses and train waiting time. I have to take a feeder bus from my house to Eunos MRT (the bus frequency is pretty low at times). However, I must say the train ride from Eunos to Boon Lay is the best. It may be pretty long, but I would find myself a seat most of the time when the train reaches City Hall station, and bury myself in a sea of books. I find that I study best on train rides (I don't know why. That's why I purposely dont drive to school sometimes). However, that is provided if I'm not so tired that I risk falling asleep on the comfortable train (: I dread the bus ride on 179. Its frequency is high, but the aplenty traffic lights along my way to school are pretty screwed up. The bus never fails to stop at almost every traffic light. Because of that, my bus journey is prolonged to about 20-25 minutes. But Im glad the student union responded to our pleas and came up with 179A, an express bus to and fro Boon Lay.

As I have travelled like this for 3 yrs plus now, I feel that sometimes it's not bad travelling after all. I'm lucky that I dont stay in the extreme East. But I have a friend who stays in Pasir Ris is willing to give up her place in the hall and travel to school for 4 schooling days in the row. I never really hear her complaining much, cos it's an informed choice she made.

The school may be far, but I like everything else about the school. The space, the greenery, the Nanyang auditorium, revamped canteen A, each-a-cup (bubble tea stall) in canteen B, lecturers who taught me (especially my inspiring and caring econs lecturers), my friends, my course curriculum (it's pretty holistic), entrepreneurship minor course curriculum (really one of its kind), hss library, ADM building (super cool architect and interior designs), Canteen 2 mini spicy steamboat and delicious waffles, the presence of halls to house students who stay very far from school, the free carparks (for now. Heard that the school's going to charge next academic year. But who cares? It doesn't affect me. Yay :D), the Yunnan garden (but the gardens I saw in my China friends' universities are bigger and prettier. Well, I'm ok with Yunnan garden. At least my parents love it. haha.)....

Wow. I didnt realise the list is pretty long. Ok la. Everything else I like except maybe for my cca (is the culture I cannot fit in (very unfortunately) and maybe the people).

I think I digressed too much. Suffice to say, because I like the school for other reasons, I dont mind that it's far.

Yearn for the days of innocence
